These are unidirectional non-woven coated sheets, not regular cross woven fabric (see photo).  Regular woven fabric mostly used in fragmentation protection or must be mixed up with other materials for ballistic protection.  UD type sheets can be used for ballsitic protection alone.
Better trauma resistance performance than regular woven type fabric and PE with the same number of layers.
More cost-effective than PE fabric like Dyneema for the same level of protection. 
300% more heat resistant than PE fabric, which means 300% more protection for contact gun shots.
5 to 7 times stronger than steel in strength  
Lasts tremendously longer than PE because it deteriorates slower.  Most wildly used by the miilitary around the world.
